Smooth Edges began forming in the summer of 2008.  As is often the case members from several other bands decided that their  band associations no longer fulfilled their artistic needs.  As a result, Jay, Steve, Matt and Jim found that they had similar musical interests and the correct vocal and instrumentation mix to create Smooth Edges.   What is Smooth Edges?  It is a rock band... a different kind of rock band.  Smooth Edges plays rock music that is smoother but still with an edge.  Most of the group's members had been playing classic rock for years in various bands and decided that perhaps people would like the opportunity to hear and dance to good rock music without being blasted out of their seats.  So the emphasis is on covering such artists as Little River Band, Billy Joel, Motown, Gordon Lightfoot, Dire Straits, Neil Diamond, America, The Bodeans, Traveling Willburys, Guess Who, Beatles and many others.  It's a smoother rock, but it rocks!!  The members of the group have many years of experience between them and are products of years of playing and listening to the most formative eras of rock music (60's, 70's and 80's). 
Meet Smooth Edges:

• Steve (drums and vocals) began singing as a kid growing up in Virginia when he would “borrow” his sisters’ 45’s and mimic artists like Elvis, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and the like. He became interested in drums, playing on hat boxes and trash cans until he bought his first real set at age thirteen.  Major life long music influences include Ray Charles, Beatles, East Coast Soul/Beach Music, Roy Orbison, Neil Diamond and the Four Seasons.   He lives in Delafield, WI.
  
• Jay (bass and vocals) decided early on that bass guitar was a lot more fun than the viola and has been in rock bands ever since. Probably Waukesha County's most humble talent, he sings in four octaves and plays a mean acoustic guitar too... when he’s not out riding his Harley.   Jay's easy manner and even keel are a good influence on the group.  Make Jay smile, you win a prize.
  
  
• Matt  (acoustic  guitar and vocals ) just loves to play and sing.  He has been playing guitar for many years and has played with various bands and family members as well.  He speaks softly but carries a big guitar!  While Jay and Steve come from mostly classic rock roots, Matt brings the softer side of rock experience to the group.  
  
  
• Jim  (acoustic and electric guitar, keyboards, harmonica and vocals)  brings a wide array of musical ability to the group.  It is not unusual to see him playing multiple instruments at different points in the same song.   He is also a product of many years of playing and listening to formative rock music.  Jim is an expert on all things Beatle and Beatle members.  Ask him any trivia question on them  and he will have the answer!  This past year he visited their old stomping grounds in Liverpool, England while on a trip to London!  Among Jim's favorites are The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Neil Young. 
  Jim, like Jay,  can also be found riding his Harley in his spare time.
